Region I is comprised of approximately seventy-eight employees, working in ten district offices, throughout Northern New Mexico. The Region spans from San Juan County in the Northwest, to Union County in the Northeast, and includes the Navajo and Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservations, as well as the Eight Northern Pueblos. The Region encompasses five judicial districts including the First (Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties), Fourth (San Miguel, Mora and Guadalupe counties), Eighth (Colfax, Union and Taos counties), Eleventh (San Juan and McKinley counties), and the Thirteenth (Cibola county).

The Region provides approximately two-hundred programs available to clients for services including: inpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs, mental health counseling, domestic violence counseling, financial assistance, housing assistance, and a number of other essential services. Region I, in conjunction with District and Magistrate courts around the Region, offers seven Adult/Felony Drug Courts in the following cities: Aztec/Farmington, Espanola, Taos, Raton, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and Grants. Additionally, Region I offers three DWI Drug Courts located in the first and eleventh judicial districts, and two Mental Health Treatment Courts located in the first and eleventh judicial districts. These problem-solving courts offer an alternative to incarceration and provide an opportunity for offenders to better their lives through highly structured programming aimed at maintaining a sober and productive lifestyle.

To meet the varying needs of clientele, Region I has specialized Officers supervising sex offenders and those identified as high-risk, high-need, or both. Those in need of intensive supervision participate in the Community Corrections or Intensive Supervision programs. While participating in these programs, probationers and parolees are given additional support and are required to report more frequently as part of a structured supervision plan. A Gender-Specific Officer located in Santa Fe specializes in working with the area’s female population focusing on needs and issues specific to female offenders in the reintegration process. An inpatient treatment program, developed to assist offenders convicted of Sex Crimes is located in Las Vegas.
