Overview 

The New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) began implementing new “Smart Communications” tablets on July 1, 2024. These tablets replace the physical mail system and digitally upload the mail to the inmate tablets. This initiative modernizes communications, while improving services and enhancing safety.
