Work Hours

Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to oversee and supervise inmates in a penal or rehabilitative institution in accordance with established regulations and procedures. Cadets receive and complete training at a correctional academy for adult correctional institutions.
Experience
No experience is required for this position.
Employment Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age (no upper age limit)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must possess a valid New Mexico drivers license or ability to obtain one
- No felony convictions
- No domestic violence convictions
- Must successfully complete all required screenings, including a background check, psychological evaluation, medical assessment, and drug screening urinalysis
- Must be able to perform essential duties as outlined below
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position as outlined below
Required Training
The academy is a stay academy of 4 days a week, 8 weeks of instruction that combines course work with practical’s. From basic introduction courses to CPR and firearms. The academy is held in Santa Fe, N.M. Our goal is to provide you with all the basic tools needed for you to be successful when you arrive at your facility. You will be required to complete a physical agility exit standard for graduation.
The multi-stage physical agility test shall be conducted on a “point scale” and shall, at a minimum, consist of the following:
- Pushups: 1 point awarded per 1 correct repetition (one-minute time limit allowed)
- Squats: 1 point awarded per 1 correct repetition (one-minute time limit allowed)
- Plank: 1 point awarded per five (5) seconds upright (one-minute time limit allowed)
- Step Test: 1 point awarded per five (5) steps (one-minute time limit allowed)
- Dummy Drag: 1 point awarded per eighteen (18) feet moved
- Run: Five (5) points per 100 meters (five (5) minute time limit allowed)
